Passive vessels in an active ecosytem that allow water to generate the rhythm inherent to life
Flowform cascades uplift our experience of water in the landscape and can also support the life within it. The flowing water passing through these forms becomes rhythmical and more dynamic yet can be graceful in its forms and musical in its sounds. These sensitively shaped sculptures enable a more dynamic flow to arise which oxygenates the water very effectively and supports water’s role as a mediator for organisms in the aquatic eco-system. Their benefits have been recognised for natural swimming pools, ponds and lakes for wildlife, and constructed wetland systems for water cleaning. The acoustic qualities in some of the cascades have been used successfully to ameliorate noise pollution, as well as purely for the mood they create.

The slow, intermittent sound created in the Ovella has been compared to that of waves washing on a shoreline. The rhythm arises in the first bowl and then becomes stronger in subsequent forms down the cascade.Â

The Emerson design’s elegant form has a lightness yet holds a powerful swinging movement with a slow rhythm. It can sit well in both open and intimate settings, formal and informal. Small and large versions are available but the 2 sizes are not suited to go together in a single cascade.

The Helena has a gentle rhythmic sound with a pleasant “chuckle”. like some mountain streams. Its rounded forms allow vigourous movmement but still give a friendly gesture- especially good for children. Small and large versions can suit many settings. The different sizes can be combined although the plumbing is more complex.

The larger Sondril gives slower graceful water movemements whereas the small form is fast and lively. Both give particularly strong sound for small settings. Small and large forms combine very easily in long and short runs and are very easy to install. The Sondril has proven especially popular in playgrounds.Â

The forms of the Sevenfold are strongly sculpted and the shapes evolve from one to the next in the same way as many forms found in nature- leaves on a stem or vertebrae in a backbone. The water movements also develop from a lively backswing, though a slow side to side breathing, Â on through two vortices, and into a faster forward pulsing gesture. It falls into a resonant chamber below the widest form giving an intriguing sound. The cascade can be secreted away among trees and shrubs to be discovered emerging beside a pool, or it can used as a prominent feature immediately engaging the visitor in more open settings. Although it is most often used complete and in order there are other possible ways to combine the forms. It is recommended to discuss these options before ordering.
